How to Create a Simple Body Care Routine

Facial skincare routines get all the love, but your body is just as deserving of attention! In fact, once you’ve got your face skincare routine on lockdown, it’s time to put together a simple body care routine that you can do every night to keep you glowing from head to toe. Read on to discover the four essential steps of any body care routine.

What Should Be My Body Skincare Routine?

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleansing is an essential first step of any body skincare routine. While some people like to make their face wash do double-duty as a body wash, it’s usually more economical to choose a dedicated body wash since they come in bigger bottles. We recommend choosing a body wash that is free from sulfates, silicones, and synthetic fragrances so you will be able to cleanse your skin without drying it out.

For instance, our FIELDTRIP GET UP & GO™ Invigorating Body Wash features eucalyptus leaf oil for a natural yet energizing scent. It also incorporates glycerin to lock in moisture and Iceland moss to soothe your skin as it cleanses. Simply apply a squirt to damp hands or a damp washcloth, then work it into a lather all over your body and rinse it off when you’re done.

Step 2: Remove Dead Skin

Your body needs to be exfoliated just like your face. In fact, the thicker, tougher skin on your body actually stands up to exfoliation even better than your face. Many people enjoy exfoliating their body two or three times a week even if they only exfoliate their face once a week. Just using a washcloth with your body wash will provide a mild exfoliating effect during the cleanse step, but you might find yourself wanting a deeper exfoliation.

You can buy exfoliating body washes, but many people don’t like to fuss with more than one body wash. If you prefer to keep things simple, try using an energizing face scrub on your body as well. For instance, our Smooth Trails Energizing Face Scrub can also be used on your body if you want! Just be sure not to exfoliate on the same days that you shave (see the next step) so that you don’t irritate your skin accidentally.

Step 3: Shave the Right Way

Always check that your razor is sharp and free of debris and rust before shaving. We recommend spending a few minutes in the shower prior to shaving to soften up your skin and hair. Once you’re ready to go, lather up a section of your body with some shave lotion to lubricate the area, then shave the razor with the grain of your hair to help prevent ingrown hairs. Rinse your razor after every couple of strokes to get a closer shave. Once you’re done with one section, repeat the process on another until you finish shaving the entire area.

Step 4: Moisturize

Even if all you did was cleanse with body wash, you should still moisturize from head to toe after getting out of the show. And it’s extra important to moisturize after shaving or exfoliating, both of which can be potentially drying for your skin. Choose a moisturizer that will keep your skin supple and hydrated, yet absorbs into your skin easily — nobody likes having to get dressed while their skin is still sticky! For an extra boost of moisture, apply it in the shower while your skin is still damp to lock in water and make your skin feel even more hydrated.
